I have been tempted to complain and become frustrated lately about some situations in my life that I've been waiting for God to change. Things seemingly seem to be going a lot slower than I would like and it seems to be weighing on me a lot more than usual. Generally I am not a complainer, I really am not. I've learned how to take most of the things that trouble me, perplex me and frustrate me to God in prayer and to try and leave it there. But being the sinful, falliable human being that I am I often pick them back up after laying them at His feet and allow them to weigh heavy on my mind and spirit!
However, in preparing to preach this past Sunday I was struck by a few lines from one of the passages that I preached from and the words struck me like lightning. This passage bothered me, arrested me and as of yet has not left me alone, thank God!
The passage is from Isaiah 40:28 "Has thou not known? Has thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? There is no searching of his understanding."(KJV)
This verse reminded me of what I often forget when I am complaining about something in my life. That is this...though my situation may not have changed, God is still in control!! That may not be anything you don't already know, but it's something most of us as Christians are quick to forget!!! God has everything under control and when He is ready He will act.
This contextually is the message to the nation who is in exile in enemy territory. They are about to lose hope because there situation is desperate and they feel as if God has forgotten about them. God sends this mid 8th century B.C. prophet by the name of Isaiah to them with this message of hope. Here is the jist of the message..."from beginning to end and everything involved in between, I am controlling your situation". This message was designed to give the people the needed hope to continue trusting and waiting on God.
As we approach this Thanksgiving Holiday I thank God for my situation, though it hasn't changed yet. I am trusting that God is totally aware of my struggles and as the creator of the ends of the earth, He has my situation under divine surveilance. If you like me are tempted to complain about things not being the way you think they should be in your life, I encourage you to continue taking it to the Lord in prayer and faithfully trust that He who controls the ends of the earth will move in His own Sovereign way and time to do what's best for you and for that which will most glorify and honor His name. Be it a relationship, marriage, financies, a job, a church, an enemy, a sickness, a loved one.....you name it....God has it all under control!!!! Just keep trusting and waiting on God!!
I read the other day that one of the smallest particles known to man is what is called a "quark". It's so small that no one has come up with a size for it yet. It's just that small!!!! But the author said "if there is one quark running around in this entire massive universe and world that God does not have control over or is unaware of then He ceases to be God!!!" If God knows about and controls every single quark, then surely He knows about and controls our situations!! Wait on God loved one...Wait of God!!!!
"Waiting! Yes, patiently waiting! Till next steps made plain shall be, To hear, with the inner hearing, The Voice that will call for me. Waiting! yes, quitely waiting! No need for an anxious dread, Shall He not assuredly guide me, Who giveth me daily bread? Waiting! Yes, hopefully waiting! With hope that needn't grow dim, The Master is pledged to guide me, And my eyes are unto Him. Waiting! Yes, expectantly waiting! Perhaps it may be today, The Master will quickly open The gate to my future way. Waiting! Yes, trustfully waiting! I know, though I've waited long, That, while He witholds His purpose, His waiting cannot be wrong. Waiting! Yes, waiting, Still waiting! The Master will not be late, He knoweth that I am waiting For Him to unlatch the gate."
