Dying to Preach

"Every Pastor can identify with Paul's pain. Preach to the people; they do nothing, Love the people-nothing. Work for the people-nothing. Perhaps this frustration is most clearly seein in the pulpit ministry. We lay out our guts in the pulpit, and in response see stone-cold faces with no ambition toward godliness or motivation to change. We see only deep embeded spiritual stubborness and heartbreaking disappointing, spiritual pride. Nothing is more discouraging toa pastor than to give his life for fallen sheep, only to find that they are perfectly content in their fallen state. Lethargy, complacency, and mediocrity become the norm.Yet, this is pastoral ministry, and that means finding the stamina to tread water while you explain to the drowning that they are indeed drowning."

Dying to Preach, pg. 24, Steven W. Smith
